Changing Shape, Shaping Change:

Longer description: Whether we like it or not change is the only constant and the pace of change continues to accelerate rapidly. Dealing effectively with change involves increasing several diverse skill sets including diversity and conflict resolution, creativity and innovation, and the ability to recognize when celebration of hard won success is needed.

Often difficulties in dealing with change stem from common misunderstanding. For example, how one much time one person needs to process information may differ greatly from another’s. The incorrect interpretation may lead to forming negative judgements. When people are under stress or experiencing conflict, chances are they are not communicating at their best. Miscommunications increase stress levels and a vicious cycle of misunderstanding, miscommunication and frustration results. Learning more about each other’s differences and similarities (e.g. thinking and learning styles) can help to prevent conflict from the beginning, and help organizations deal more effectively with change.

By increasing your creativity and innovation skill sets, you’ll enjoy enhanced problem solving and decision making; you’ll also learn to thrive in an atmosphere of change and diversity; and you’ll notice greater ease in your daily environment. The first steps in reducing stress are acknowledging what we have control over and what we don’t and using this to create customized action plan.

Appreciating the dedication and hard work of staff, board members and administration is key to managing change well. It’s about learning more about how to celebrate and have fun while being inclusive.
